CaixaBank has warned about a problem that could directly affect many of its clients, concerning a new scam involving its mobile application.
The bank asked via an email to its clients, “Are they asking you to install a new app?” which the Asociación de Consumidores y Usuarios en Red (Consumur) has echoed.

The bank and the consumer-protection entity urge people to distrust any message or call requesting the download of a new application: “The bank will never ask you to uninstall the app or install a new and different one,” it explains, adding, “This is a common tactic used by hackers to access users’ personal and banking data.”
CaixaBank points out that their app is only updated through official channels (App Store and Google Play) and that they never request confidential data via email, SMS, or over the phone.
Furthermore, their website advises that if you believe you have been a victim of a scam, detect suspicious account activity, or receive confusing communication, you can call their 24-hour customer service line (938 87 25 25).
