Gorgoracha Road Repair

The Gorgoracha road, connecting the north of Motril to Vélez de Benaudalla, was another communications infrastructure affected by the series of recent gales.

Consequently, emergency roadworks will take place to sort out the damaged areas of this picturesque back road, known officially as the old A-4133. These areas are between Urbanización Nacla and the miradores further up; near the old mines in Cerro del Torro.

The repair work consists of building a retaining wall, approximately four metres high and around 100 metres long – not exactly the Great Wall of China but pretty extensive all the same.

The job is expected to last two months from its start date and will be done under an emergency contract, similar to the repair of the wall at the Escribano Castilla Municipal Stadium

As for how much it will cost, it is estimated to be around 130,000 euros; which includes the new retaining wall itself, as well as installing a new drainage system.

Mayor Luisa García Chamorro commented on the “importance of this stretch of road for the population of the entire area, especially for the residents of Vélez de Benaudalla, as it is an access route for services in our town, such as the Hospital Santa Ana.”

Another use for this road it is the one taken by the refuse-collection lorries to reach the waste recycling plant.
