Wet, Windy Wednesday

Salobreña, following the lead taken earlier by Almuñécar and Motril, has activated the pre-emergency operational phase of the Municipal Emergency Plan.

This follows updated warnings from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), which has placed the province of Granada under an Orange Alert for wind, coastal phenomena, and rain forecast for the coming days.

The Municipal Emergency Committee met yesterday morning to analyse the evolution of the storm and coordinate the municipal services’ preventive response.

Mayor Ortega Prados, noted that “All municipal officials are on permanent alert, continuously monitoring the weather event and its potential effects.” He has urged the population to exercise “maximum caution, especially when travelling, given the forecast for intense rain and strong wind gusts during Wednesday, January the 28th, as well as in the following days while adverse conditions persist.”

According to AEMET, wind gusts could reach 90 km/h and occasionally exceed 100 km/h. There is also an orange alert for the coast with west and southwest winds of 60 to 80 km/h (force 8 to 9) and waves between 4 and 6 metres.
