The updated development plan for Playa Granada received official endorsement from landowners, bringing this stalled project a step closer.
To get it through, it has been scaled back to make it more viable for potential investors: the planned water surface area was slashed by 50%, down to around 50,000 sq/m, which still provides around 400 berths – originally, it planned for over 750.

The centerpiece is a sports marina located between the Playa de Poniente campsite and Chiringuito Hoyo 19.
However, the project still includes approximately 2,000 dwellings and, for the first time on Playa Granada, (which was planned to exude luxury and exclusivity) that number includes a space for 1,743 government-subsidised dwellings (VPOs) *Gasp!*
There’s also something that will make the Morisco Golf Course happy bunnies (not!) and that is an 18-hole, golf course. Oh, and a luxury hotel, and a shopping mall.
OK, so it was approved yesterday by the compensation board, which is basically a deal with the land owners who will be selling up to the project developers. It will now pass onto to be examined and approved by the Public Ports Agency of Andalusia (APPA) and requires an amendment to Motril’s General Urban Development Plan (PGOU).
Also bear in mind that the Motril Port marina is going to expand massively starting, March this year.

Another marina. Plus housing. Let’s hope the waste system can cope with the ever growing discharges Into an already creaking system. Especially during tourist seasons. Is it safe to go Into the sea Mum?. Yes of course. Only sharks around here have two legs. Oh and do breast stroke. Head above water. Do not swallow.
