Aquarium Reopens

Almuñécar's Acuario opened its doors yesterday, as announced by the Mayor last week, after four years of remaining closed.

As well as being a tourist magnet as an sea-life attraction, it also aims to be a scientific establishment with plans to repopulate damaged coral colonies and the introduction of marine species to the waters off Almuñécar.

Presently the installations house over 1,500 creatures within the hundred difference species contained in its viewing tanks, amongst them sharks, rays, seahorses, moray eels and jellyfish.

Probably the biggest such tank has a glass tunnel running through a tank holding a million litres of seawater
