A man in his 50s perished in a house fire in Pitres in the upper Alpujarra Granadina early yesterday morning.
The emergency coordination centre, 112 received several calls starting a little before 04.00h to say that a lot of smoke was coming out of a single-storey house on Calle Palenque, Pitres, and that there could be a person trapped within.

The Bomberos de Cádiar were alerted, together with a 061 ambulance and the Guardia Civil.
Once at the scene, the emergency personnel confirmed that the 53-year-old owner of the dwelling had died, probably from smoke poisoning.
The Guardia Civil has begun an investigation into the possible cause of the fire, with the help of fire experts from the Cádiar Fire Service.
