A man in his late 70’s was attacked with a hammer today at around 14.10 hrs in Calle Antigua, Almuñécar just off the main town hall square.

The motive behind the attack is not known at this time, but it appears a local male lay in wait along Calle Vélez for the elderly man to appear and start ascending Calle Antigua before covering his face with a scarf, producing the hammer and attacking the elderly man from behind.

The assailant made off directly after the attack as police and ambulance were called by shocked locals.

The extent of the elderly man’s injuries are unknown at this early stage.
