A few days before Christmas a resident of Almuñécar made a complaint before the Guardia Civil after a firework rocket exploded on the balcony of his flat causing a small fire.

This occurred at 20.30h on the 20th after somebody launched a rocket fromLa Carrera area of town; (i.e. near the roundabout with the huge flag and fountain). The rocket landed on the said flat balcony-terrace in Plaza Mayor (next to the aqueduct)

“At that moment I was inside with the sliding glass door to the terrace closed. When I went outside I saw the cushions on fire, which I had to put out. There was also damage to a cupboard and Persian blinds, amongst other objects,” explained the flat owner.

He went on to say that it caused a big fright and wondered what would have happened if everybody had been out at the time or if the glass door had been open.

Fireworks are readily available at this time of year and adolescents with interesting explosives to hand tend to be adventurous…
