Body of Missing Woman Found

The body of a woman was found yesterday by a roadside ditch along the A-92 highway, near Cúllar (Baza).

The Guardia Civil believe that the body could belong to Geraldine, a 74-year-old British woman whose disappearance was reported on September the 18th across the provincial border with Almería.

She had last been seen in the hamlet of Contador (part of the municipality of Chirivel) which is about four kilometres from the spot in Cúllar where the body was found.

It doesn’t appear to have been the result of a traffic accident, although the autopsy will have to confirm the cause of death.

The body was found just to the left side of the roadside ditch, near kilometre point 80 on the A-92, on the Granada bound lane. The discovery was made around 09:00h. The Guardia Civil closed the exit ramp from the autovia whilst emergency personnel worked at the scene.

Chirivel Town Council requested the “utmost respect for the family” and thanked “the understanding and support of all citizens” who, in recent weeks, had joined the search in teams covering a radius of more than four kilometers around the town center.

Helicopters, drones, specialised dogs, as well as the Granada mountain-rescue team participated in the search.

Geraldine, who had a cognitive disability, left her home to feed some cats. She had lived with her husband for over 20 years in this hamlet of barely a hundred residents.
