Work began around the 20th of last month on upgrading the underground, waste containers on Avenida Salobreña in Motril.
This work is part of the new cleaning contract, aimed at improving the collection system on this main thoroughfare of the city and modernising the underground containers to optimise the service.

Vice-Mayor Hernández emphasised the importance of this upgrade for the entire length of Salobreña Avenue in Motril; one of the town’s main streets. He noted that “before carrying out this work to upgrade the underground containers, the cleaning service conducted a pilot test to adjust the new load capacity of these containers,” which has resulted in “a clear success with the new system that will be implemented.”
“Following this pilot test, we have studied, together with the service managers, the best way to adapt these containers. With this modification, we will switch from a side-loading, collection system to a rear-loading system, using a hydraulic platform that will lift the containers,” he explained.
The works are expected to last approximately two weeks; i.e., to the beginning of December, but “we hope they will be completed sooner, as the work is ahead of schedule.”
With this new collection system, the cleaning service will continue collecting organic waste, plastic, paper and cardboard. One of the changes is that the glass collection containers will be removed and relocated to the streets adjacent to Avenida Salobreña.
After this task has been completed, they will move onto Camino del Pelaillo, where waste is also collected using underground containers.
