Coastal Path News

The Chairman of Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, laid the foundation stone for the  Coastal Pathway.

The event marks the start of construction on Path One, the first section of the extensive coastal route, which will have a total length of approximately 24 kilometres, between Almuñécar and Salobreña.

Chairman Rodríguez said, “Today we are taking a decisive step towards making the Coastal Pathway a reality; an infrastructure project that will improve accessibility and mobility, and allow us to enjoy one of the most spectacular landscapes in the Mediterranean.” Hyperbole anybody?

Also present was the Mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, who expressed his satisfaction with the start of the Granada Coastal Pathway in the municipality, highlighting that it represents an investment of around €1.2 million that will connect the Cerro Gordo natural park with the Playa Cabria area, offering a new route for sports and walks. He emphasised the project’s tourist, environmental, and social impact.

This first section, a milestone in the overall project, has a budget of €1,210,510 and a completion timeframe of sixteen months. The route runs entirely along the coast of the municipality of Almuñécar, from the provincial border between Granada and Málaga to the municipal border with Salobreña. It also includes a western branch that will connect the main route to the N-340 main road, providing direct access to the Playa Cantarriján parking area, located near the provincial border.

The main section of Path One begins at the crossing of the Cantarriján stream and ends at a dirt track that reaches the N-340 road and the border with the municipality of Salobreña, located at the end of Playa Barranco de Enmedio. As part of the project, improvements will also be carried out on the coastal areas such as the vantage points of Peñón del Lobo, Cerro Gordo, Punta de la Mona and Torre del Diablo (Taramay).
