Illegal Rentals?

Convergencia Andaluza (CA) has denounced that the “illegal tourist rentals” at the Cotobro senior residence have resulted in “huge profits” and a “ridiculous” fine of 900 euros.

According to CA, “At the beginning of the 2024 high season, offers began appearing on vacation-rental websites that exactly matched the location of the Cotobro senior residence in Almuñécar.

The owners of this residence were allocating a significant portion of their facilities to tourist rentals, seriously violating the legal regulations that only allow the property to be used as a senior residence,” they reported.

Therefore, Convergencia Andaluza informed the Mayor of this “serious irregularity” at the beginning of that summer that same year.

“Surprisingly, the municipal administration did not notify the company of the opening of a case for illegal activity until the 19th of April, 2025, ten months after learning of the illegal use of the property, de facto allowing it to continue operating and earning significant profits,” claims the CA.

In their opinion, the most surprising thing is that on the 11th of July, 2025, the Mayor, after acknowledging that the reported events were correct, imposed on the company that owns the Cotobro senior citizen home “a paltry fine of 900 euros, which contrasts sharply with the large profits obtained by the company that owns the property.”

The CA concluded by stating that “If you have a good relationship with the the Mayor’s party, flouting planning regulations and legality is practically free.”
