Connecting to the Castle

Lanjarón has taken a step closer to getting its zip-line project approved and assigned EU funding.

The Provincial Council confirmed on Wednesday that financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) would go ahead.

This infrastructure will be integrated into the Senda del Tajo Colorado, adding to Lanjarón’s tourist appeal, linked to nature and sports.

The Provincial Council decided to fully assume the municipal contribution corresponding to the approved projects.

This is not the only project that Granada is backing because, In total, Granada will allocate 52.7m euros for 71 initiatives spread over 84 different municipalities, of which €44.8 million will come from the EU and 7.9, from the Provincial Council’s coffers.

The Mayor of Lanjarón, Eric Escobedo, said, “Once again, Lanjarón is in luck. This morning, in the meeting held with the Provincial Council and thanks to European funds, we secured the grant for the construction of the zip line that will connect the Senda del Tajo Colorado within our municipality. We are very proud to achieve this goal once again.”

The zip line will run from the Tajo Colorado to the remains of the Medieval Castle, stretching 800 metres making it the longest interurban zip line in all of Europe.

If all goes well, the tender for the works will be published soon, with completion scheduled for June 2026.

Editorial comment: the word used in Spanish is tirolina, which is a zip-line but an accompanying project photo clearly shows a hanging bridge. God knows which it is. Perhaps it contemplates both
