Long Distance Peddling

A Danish cycling enthusiast set out from his home country at the beginning of September and by yesterday had reached Valencia.

The 59-year old, Jacob Jacobsen is a member of the Asociación Ciclista La Herradura and set himself the goal of cycling around 3,000 kilometres to reach La Herradura and if all goes well, should arrive some time next week, depending on the weather.

The first leg of his journey was from Copenhagen to Hamburg, some 325.69 kilometres. The next leg would take him across Germany to Luxembourg, covering a little over 114 kilometres.

By the 15th he had crossed France from north to south and reached the Franco/Spanish frontier

The day before yesterday he arrived in Valencia after crossing the Spanish frontier near Figueras, three weeks into his trip.

In no way detracting from this challenge, I remember three Danes who walked from Denmark to Almuñécar. In those days there were also a few Germans turning up, driving tractors towing gypsy-style wagons. Obviously, they couldn’t use motorways and the top speed of a tractor pulling a load certainly wasn’t liable to trigger a speed camera.
