A man lost his life whilst crossing the new bypass that links the Port Road to the Vadillo Trading Estate (Avenida Costa Tropical) in Motril.
The emergency coordination centre, 112, received a call a little before 07.00h on the 22nd of last month calling in an accident, explaining that a pedestrian had been hit by a car.
An ambulance and police were immediately despatched to the scene but the paramedics could only confirm that the 70-year-old man had died almost instantly.
No further information on the victim nor the circumstances are available at the time of writing.
This is the second fatal accident on this stretch of road in less than a week; the previous Saturday two men in their early 20s riding a motorbike lost their lives when they hit a curb.
Editorial comment: despite there being a speed limit of 50 kph, this double-lane bypass regularly sees drivers far exceding this speed as there are no speed bumps or raised pedestrian crossings. After these three deaths, no doubt there will be changes to that.
