Big Day Tomorrow!

The XIX Festival Aéreo Internacional de Motril will be held this Sunday on Playa de Poniente with free admission.

The Motril International Air Festival was first held on the 10th of June, 2006, when it was only a small gathering of aircraft enthusiasts who managed to pull together a few aircraft at the Motril Municipal Heliport with just a few dozen spectators.

Nowadays, the International Air Festival has risen to the status of one of the most important air shows in Spain, thanks to the constant and selfless work of this group of people. Year after year, they have persevered and perfected their work, reaching the high standards we know today.

The Tiger Demo Team F-16 belonging to the Polish Air Force will participate for the first time ever in Spain.

This air-display team form part of Nato’s prestigious Tiger Association, which is a group of squadrons with tiger emblems on their aircraft.

The Patrulla Aspa (helicopter display team) came into being in 2003 with five Eurocopter EC120 Colibrí helicopters. This kind of aircraft is renowned for its manoeuverability and advanced design. The team has participated in numerous air festivals, and this year is its sixth appearance at the Motril festival.

This year will also see the F-18 Hornet making its first appearance in a Motril Air Show, where spectators are used to seeing the Eurofighter.

The airshow has over 100,000 spectators nowadays , so if you’re taking your car, get there at least two hours before if you want to find somewhere to park and a spot to watch the display from.

Regarding parking, there’s a parking area near Restaurante Katena, as well as on the paseo in front of the camping sites. There’s limited parking in front of Chiringuito Hoyo-19, as well as next to Villa Astrida, and entering from the lane beginning next to the Moriscos Golf Course.

Where you can’t park is in front of Chiringuito Espeto for logistical reasons connected with the air show.
But if you don’t want all the hassle of trying to find where to park, then take a bus from Motril centre or a taxi either from your hometown or from one of the underground car parks in the town centre.
