We don’t often do Sports News but the achievement of Herradureña Una Stancev in Switzerland very much deserves recognition.

Una, who belongs to the Nerja team, Club Trops Cueva de Nerja, not only beat her own personal best in high jump, clearing 1.91 metres and a new record for Andalucia but this achievement is also the third-highest jump record in the history of Spanish athletics.

The Almuñécar Sports Department considers Una Stancev to be the “Embajadora del Deporte Sexitano” on social media.

She said that the road that she has followed in sports has not been easy but at last she is reaching where she dreamt of being.

She also expressed her gratitude towards her trainer, Daniel Martí Redondo, for “giving her support and putting up with her every day,” with a smile.

The fact is that the municipality has exceptional athletes in many sports, including Cristina Ruiz Barbero (Club Juventud Atletismo Granada) who won a Silver in high jump in the Andalucía Sub 23. 

Then there is Herradureño Luis Barbero García, who participates as co-pilot with Belgian, Dirk Van Rompuy in the very exacting Dakar desert rally, coming in fourth in the Classic Category and second in the Iconic Cars one; i.e., cars not prepared for this Saudi-Arabian race.

Lastly, but no less importantly, there’s Almuñequero Carlos Rodríguez Cano, a top international cyclist, who belongs to the INEOS Grenadiers, UCI WorldTeam Category and participated in the 2023 Tour de France and the 2023 Tour of Britain.
