Recovery Costs Appeal

Readers might remember an article that we ran about a young British man who fell from a hotel balcony in Marbella.

The family and friends of 24-year-old, Harry are trying to raise funding via Gofundme.com to cover costs once he is out of hospital, owing to the severity of his injuries.

Here is the text accompanying the appeal:

“I wish I wasn’t writing this but I’m reaching out because one of my closest friends has been in a horrific freak accident while on holiday in Marbella and is now fighting for his life. He fell from a hotel balcony and is now in an induced coma with life threatening injuries – bleed on the brain, multiple broken bones all over his body’s and severe internal damage. He’s already had a few big surgeries, and had a lot more ahead of him before he’s out of it all.”

Luke Coupland is the author of the message above and is hoping to raise 25,000 pounds in the name of the victim’s partner, Alexandra Watts. So far the Gofundme account has generated 23,012 pounds in donations.

The accident occurred on the 25th of May at the Hard Rock Hotel in Marbella. The accident was not the result of ‘balconing,’ as the Spanish call it; i.e., guests either climbing from one balcony to another, or in other cases, diving from one into the hotel pool below. It appears that the fall was an accident that did occur, however, because the victim had been drinking.

He is still in the ICU having suffered multiple head injuries and fractures in both his upper and lower limbs
