An elderly man collapsed on the street in Almuñécar yesterday morning and required nine discharges from a defibrillator to get his heart going again.

This occurred on the Paseo China Gorda with the 72-year-old man lying unconscious on the pavement. The emergency call centre (112) despatched the Policía Local and an ambulance.

It was the municipal police who arrived first at the scene and immediately put to use their portable defibrillator together with CPR procedure and were shortly assisted by paramedics from the A&E Department at the municipal medical centre who administered six further discharges which finally got his heart going again

Once stabilised, he was rushed to the Hospital Clínico del PTS, in Granada where he was placed into the ICU.
