It was on the 22nd of March last year that a man in his 80s walked out of his house in Almuñécar a walk. and hasn't been seen since.
Eighty-seven-year-old, Francisco Pérez Bedmar began his habitual morning walk from a small square on San Cristóbal to Cotobro but by eight in the evening the family were very worried by his absence and contacted the Guardia Civil.
When he left home, he had not been carrying his phone so they couldn’t trace his movements nor whereabouts. In fact, he had not even been wearing his hat that he always wore when going for his walk.
The search for Francisco went on for weeks, involving the Guardia Civil, Protección Civil and groups of volunteers. To date, there have been no clues as to what happened to him but the family refuse to give up the search… or let the Guardia Civil do so, either.
Then came the arrest, unconnected, of José Jurado Montilla known as Dinamita Montilla. He had been sentenced to 123 years’ imprisonment for multiple murders carried out between 1985 and 1987. He was released in 2013 (the quickest 123 years in history) but his name has been cropping up related to serious crime since then. In 2022, he was charged with the murder of a young man in Málaga, and then he was arrested in connection with the disappearance and death of Ester Estepa.
The thing is that Dinamita is an avid social-media user and posted on TikTok that he was in Almuñécar. The post was made on the same day that Francisco disappeared. Between his release after serving 28 years and his rearrest, he travelled all over Spain, including Valencia where Ester Estepa lived.
Furthermore, an Irishman made a statement before the police that he had seen Francisco on the day that he disappeared with a man who looked like a tramp and who lived in a cave. Dinamita said that he sometimes sleeps in caves on his travels…
Despite these circumstances, there has been no solid evidence connecting him with either death nor with the disappearance of Francisco Pérez Bedmar. His family has not ruled out that Dinamita could be behind it but the police authorities are not convinced enough to dedicate resources to investigate this possibility.
