The workers union encompassing medical employees, Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO.) has criticised the lack of "structural staffing" at Hospital Santa Ana in Motril.
They consider that the number of doctors and nurses at this area hospital is decreasing despite the fact that we are entering the summer period where demand on this hospital is greatest.

General Secretary for Granada, Mari Ángeles Carranza, explained that the Health Service has not covered the absences of five doctors, two TCAEs (nursing assistants), and four nurses, “to which we must add that there is no extra medical staff available under the vacation plan to fill the gaps; and all this while the influx of patients that occurs during the summer period increases.”
She said that the already negative situation is exasperated further by the imminent contract termination of five doctors in this hospital.
“As of today, only 14 doctors are working out of a staff of 27,” warning “of the situation getting worse starting on June the 15th, which is when the staff’s holiday periods begin, which will cause chaos in this service.”
Therefore, the union has demanded coverage for the remaining vacant staff (nursing, nursing staff), positions, pointing out that there are unemployed professionals waiting for a contract.
Concluding, she said that she cannot understand why Sanidad Granada, which she claims has the highest healthcare budget in its history, does not spend money on hiring the necessary health personnel.
