Almuñécar Hiking Trips

Almuñécar's Municipal Sports Department (AMD) took 64 hikers up to the Sierra Nevada to cover a 17-kilometre walk, some parts of which was over snow and ice.

Outing coordinator, Javier del Castillo, explained, “It was a semi-difficult route lasting seven hours, taking in las Chorreras del Molinillo, the source of Río Dílar, las Lagunas de la Virgen, el Torcal, la Ermita de la Virgen de las Nieves and la Hoya de la Mora.

As can be seen in the accompanying photo, the snow remained quite deep in some places, which is indicative of just how much snow fell this spring.

The next planned route will be Río Dilar, which is running quite full thanks to the snow melt from the Sierra Nevada. This means that the normal route for this destination has to be altered.

From the village Dilar, the route will take hikers to the picnic area, the bridge and the Fábrica de la Luz (hydroelectric power station) and the waterfalls, for example

If you are interested in participating this coming Sunday, you can either pop along to the Municipal Football Stadium where the Sports Department’s office is, from now up to Friday (09.00h to 14.00h & 17.00h to 22.00h). You can also phone them on 958 883 142 or 673 369 309.
