Sunday the 11th of last month saw, Salobreña's XV Villa de Salobreña, Long-Distance Grand Prix, which is part of the provincial competition organised by the Provincia Council.
This is one of the most iconic events on the Granada circuit organised by the Sports Department of the Granada Provincial Council. The provincial competition this year is the XXXVIII Universo Lorca, Long Distance Grand Prix, which comprises 17 events throughout the year.
The 10-kilometre race had its starting and finishing line at the Julio Martín Pérez Municipal Sports Centre. Runners passed through Salobreña town-centre streets, along the beach road and the surroundings outside the urban area.
The route took runners through the town’s central streets, Salobreña beach, and its surroundings, offering a flat course that combines challenging terrain with scenic beauty.
The men’s winner was Sergio González, from the AC Trotasierra club, followed by Germán Maldonado Vicente, from the Nerja Athletics Club; and Francisco Javier Fernández Machado, from CP Padre Agustinos, .
The women’s winner was Noelia Valenciano Rodríguez, followed by Carolina Huertas Álvarez with Runrundata; and Encarni Vaquero Rodríguez in third position.
Sports Councilor, Plácido Leyva, praised the race’s family-friendly atmosphere, which gives runners the opportunity to enjoy a day on Granada’s Costa Tropical.
