Locals Participate in Municipal Decisions

Gualchos-Castell de Ferro Town Hall has begun work on its Municipal Climate Change Action Plan (MCAP).

What’s that? it’s a tool through which the municipality wants to tackle the effects of climate change and come up with a “sustainable, resilient, and environmentally friendly model.”

The first step, Mayor Toñi Antequera points out, is listening to what the good folk think would be a good idea in this respect, so the Town Council has set up a survey to harvest a few opinions and insights.

The goal is to design a plan that not only meets regulatory obligations but is also aligned with the true needs of the local community, explained the Mayor.

“We want the Gualchos Climate Change Action Plan to be a project for and by everyone,” she said, adding, “Climate change is already having real and visible consequences in our environment, and only by acting locally and in a participatory manner can we truly contribute to a better future.”

Mayor Antequera said that this plan was not limited to only reducing emissions or improving energy efficiency, but also seeks to “protect the health, agriculture, the countryside, water, and well-being of current and future generations.”

So how do locals participate in this survey? It can be completed online within the municipal website where it will be available in the coming weeks. A QR code has also been created to facilitate access from mobile devices, and actually meetings where locals can attend will be held soon.
