There was an unrelated death on Monday (unrelated to the outage, that is) in Torremolinos after a male tourist in his 50s reportedly drowned in the sea.
Although this death was not in any way caused as result of the nationwide power outage, the problem did make dealing with the incident more difficult.

The 53-year-old man had been swimming off Playa de la Carihuela in the afternoon, despite the sea state and weather conditions that had been prevalent during the last days of April.
He had been accompanied by his mother-in-law, who raised the alarm upon seeing that he was having difficulties reaching the beach. However, when he was pulled out of the water by the emergency services, he had already died.
Not only was it difficult to get through to 112 to get help, but it also proved very difficult to get hold of a coroner who could give permission for the body to be moved.

Reader’s comment: “Will lessons be learnt. Cars stuck in garages that had electric doors, children stuck in the AIS school in Almunacar. The teachers cars trapped in the garages, they broke out. All these electric barriers should have manual over rides.” – Andy Bailey
