Ski-Resort Hotels Close Early

The snow might be hanging around on the northern face of the Sierra Nevada until the official end of season for skiing on the 4th of May, but the hotels are running on empty.

The problem is that now that the warmer weather is here, people are choosing to spend their weekends on the beaches rather than in a hotel in the ski resort.

Closing the skiing season on the 4th of May makes it the latest closing in six years, but for the hotels, it just isn’t worth the expense of keeping the hotels open until then.

Today will see the the closure of last three, big hotels that have staggered on despite the lack of guests; Meliá Sierra Nevada, Gran Hotel Monachil and The Mountain Hotel, meaning that there are only hostels and tourist apartments open for business, as well as the ones that stay open all year round on the road up to Sierra Nevada, Montesol and El Guerra.
