Driving on Wrong Autovía Lanes

The Guardia Civil were called out to a car parked, facing the wrong way, on the A-44.

Apparently, the 26-year-old driver had driven some distance on the wrong lanes before deciding to pull over and get out of the way.

The incident took place in the late afternoon of the 21st, which was when both the Emergency Coordination Centre (112) and the DGT Communications Centre began receiving alerts to say that a car was driving the wrong way up the autovía.

A patrol car was hastily despatched and found the car parked on the lanes more or less level with Mondujar.

The only person in the car was the driver in her mid 20s, who they escorted off the road and breathalised, which gave a negative reading.

She had travelled in this fashion some 13 kilometres heading for Motril on the northbound lanes; she had joined the autovia at junction 144 within the municipality of Padul and finally stopped on the hard shoulder at kilometre point 158 between Dúrcal and Mondújar.

She has been brought before a judge charged with dangerous driving and putting other lives at risks.
