Salobreña Town Council has approved the drawing up of a project for the remodelling of the Paseo Marítimo, as well as the new parking area near the bus station.
The project and subsequent construction work will be financed throug EU funding via the Plan de Sostenibilidad Turística.

The remodelling of the paseo will follow the lines of what has been done between Río Guadalfeo and Urbanización de Salomar 2000, explained Mayor Javier Ortega. The idea is to reach as far as Chiringuito Molino, which is some 14,000 sq/m of new paseo, although the Mayor said that they hoped to reach 18,000 sq/m.
This new section will include green areas with “soft pedestrian paving” and equipped with urban furniture and street lighting.
The Town Hall is pending permission from the Central Government’s department, Costas, which governs all of Spain’s coastlines. After that, the job will have to be put out to tender and its execution (termination date) will be around the middle of next year.
Concerning the cost, it will have a budget of almost a million euros.
Editorial comment: isn’t about time that the EU stops giving Spanish politicians money so that they can get electoral Smartie points and spend it instead on European defence?

Reader’s comment: “How about putting parking back at the pavement side of the beach wall. (Which many people sit on with a towel) Meters for the summer period. Income generation and less hassle for guests in the summer. Why make life easier. Much need soft pedestrian walking areas and urban dog peeing stations. People would vote for the return of parking on both sides of the beach road.” – Patrick Barry Storey
