Power Surge Mayhem

Residents and business owners along Avenida de Andalucía in Padul had their first power surge on the 1st of last month around two in the morning, when the voltage jumped from 220v to 400v.

This surge fried a lot of circuits and popped light bulbs, according to the Secretary of the Asociación de Comerciantes ANEPA, Juan Manuel Martos, who is the owner of Librería Cervantes.

People were left without fridges and electric hobs, as well as heaters and even aircon units, causing damage calculated at around 20,000 euros.

But it was only the first of several power-supply problems because there have also been blackouts leaving supermarkets and a pharmacy without functioning cash registers, freezers, etc.

Now all those affected are waiting for insurance experts to calculate individual cases.
