The dogs owner will appear before a judge charged with animal cruelty. However, this is not just a case of callous neglect but twisted torture. As a preventative measure, the judge ordered that his dogs be taken from him and that he be barred from owning any animals.
Seprona began an investigation after receiving information from the Policia Local in this town of some 12,000 inhabitants. The police had seen him with a pup with burn injuries on its head, which according to the owner, were from ritual practices.
The officers went to the man’s property and found his dogs in a dreadful state, some of which had spent a long time continually chained up.
The dogs: three adult males, two adult females, five 2-month-old pups and seven pups that were still at a suckling age. Many of them had injuries from being mistreated and all of them have been taken in by animal shelter centres.
On the land they also found several animal remains in decomposition some of which had been strung up and left at different points around the property, and skeletons of ones of a young age,
