Nordic Notes

Los Nordicos, with around 500 members, restarted our activities this month! You are welcome to join!

On the 23rd of January there will be an epic boulle (petanca) tournament in Almuñecar where the Nordic team will take rematch against the Finns from Benalmádena.

Los Nordicos; people from the North, love winter bathing! And this works very well in a place like Almuñecar and the Mediterranean coast.

For many, many years Nordic people staying on the Costa Tropical take a swim together every 24th of December at noon. With a cheering crowd on the beach clapping, too cowardardly to take a dip!

This year, 70 brave swimmers joined efforts with great joy and the obligatory Santa hats, with more that a 100 friends cheering on.

This tradition has now reached the provincial press and Ideal wanted to do a story about this; i.e., the foreigners on the coast awaiting the New Year.

In fact, the Swedes, Norwegians, Danes, Finns (and Icelanders) just want to enjoy their winter dips. Preferably with a sauna before and after, but the Almuñecar sunshine is good enough! A lovely tradition.

We, Los Nordicos, did indeed help celebrate the season with an active part in the Christmas Market in Almuñecar, together with the Francophones (AFA), the Costa Women Costa Tropical and a bunch of local organizations, along with the Ayuntamiento of Almuñecar.

Los Nordicos sold waffles and the traditional, warm Christmas; wine – glögg – and all the earnings went to Single Mothers (Madres Solas Melissa Sendón).

Every Wednesday evening we meet up in the Chinasol restaurant Balcón del Mar with an exciting program. You can find out more at: www.losnordicos.com
