Movistar has finally installed fibre-optic internet connections to the barrios of Torrecuevas, Las Peñuelas and Caicillos in Almuñécar.

Thanks to this high-speed connection, locals living there can enjoy Internet speeds of 1Gbps simétrico: A symetrical internet connection is when the download speed is the same as the upload speed.

The Mayor of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, was chuffed (i.e., content, for our non-native English speakers) saying, “With fibre-optics now online, residents of Las Peñuelas, Torrecuevas and Caicillos can enjoy high-quality connections, comparable with those people who reside in the centre of town.”

The Chairman of Telefónica España (Southern Area)  Joaquín Segovia, thanked the Town Hall for “its alacrity in approving the necessary licences for developing the project.”

Finally, the Mayor said that he was continuing to negotiate with Movistar to bring fibre-optic coverage to other “corners of the municipality.”

Those interested in hooking up can arrange to do so via 1004 or their nearest Movistar shop.
