Paris Flights Suspended

If you were thinking of popping off to Paris for a long weekend, taking a flight from Granada Airport, you can wave adieu to that idea.

The Provincial Board of Tourism held a meeting yesterday morning with Granada Airport (Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén) management where it was made clear that the Granada-Paris flight, operated by the airline Vueling, despite having an occupancy rate of over 88% (and 94% in the summer months), is going to be temporarily suspended.

This is being done for logistical and economic reasons; they can find a better use for their aircraft for other destinations.

Both parties, together with the government entity that runs Spain’s airports, AENA, did, however, agree to a new meeting next Wednesday the 11th.

The Granada Provincial Council, says that it “deeply regrets” Vueling’s decision, but reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the province of Granada as an attractive destination at a national and international level.

Editorial comment: The problem with the airport is that there are no decent and affordable flights to the UK, for instance, because there is no demand… and there is no demand because there are no decent and affordable flights. It’s a Catch-22 situation.

I live in Dúrcal and I would much prefer flying to and from Granada, which is 25 minutes away, than having to go all the way to Málaga to catch a flight. However, the flights out of Granada either take you on a 3-day camel trek and a packed lunch to a connection fight in Barcelona or they are too expensive.
