A driver heading the wrong way on a motorway (AP-68) caused a head on collision, resulting in the death of a pregnant woman and the child she was carrying.
This incident occurred around 21.50h last night in the municipality of Laredo (Province of Rioja) and the person who caused this tragic road incident survived and has since been arrested.

The 46-year-old driver, who is from San Adrían in Navarra, was breathalysed and found to be over the limit and having consumed drugs, as well.
The 35-year-old mother-to-be was in the front passenger seat. The driver was also badly injured in the collision.
According to the Guardia Civil, the drink-driver had travelled 10 kilometres in the wrong direction before the collision took place.
When the Guardia Civil traffic police reached the scene of the collision, three people were trapped in the wrecked vehicles: the pregnant woman who was fatally injured, and two men, who were seriously injured. Fire Personnel had to be deployed to free them.
The two men are in the ICU at Hospital San Pedro and the woman and unborn child died before reaching the hospital.
