So, chaining yourself to a palm tree actually works when it comes to getting a Town Hall to do something, it appears.
We ran an article about Residencial Arenas de Poniente, which is in the Playa Poniente area of Motril. The Chairwoman of a neighbourhood community chained herself to a palm tree in protest over the Town Hall’s failure to make a narrow street accessible for emergency vehicles.

She wasn’t alone, as many of her fellow neighbours took turns accompanying María Jesús Granados during the week that she remained there. They not only kept her company, but also brought her food, drink etc.
The Chairwoman of the resident community decided to take this drastic and unmoveable action because a whole 20 years had passed since the Town Hall had promised to do away with a wall that made the side lane so narrow that emergency fire trucks and ambulances couldn’t get access.
Since then, the Vice Mayor of Motril, Nicolás Navarro, announced that he had met with the protesters where an agreement was reached that would guarantee the necessary accessibility: “With this widening of the lane we can guarantee a more comfortable and safer access for residents, allowing as well access for emergency vehicles,” he explained.
