Car Falls into Sea

The Guardia Civil are investigating the circumstances behind a car seen falling into the sea and the latter recovery of a woman's body floating nearby.

The incident occurred in the municipality of Moaña in the province of Ponteverdra in Galicia, yesterday afternoon.

An eyewitness had phoned 112 around 17.00h to say that she had seen a car plunging into the sea. The call centre activated an ambulance from Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 and Salvamento Marítimo, who despatched their rescue launch Salvamar Mirach, as well as the Gardacostas de Galicia.

A source belonging to the Guardia Civil explained that the male driver is a resident of Moaña and was found clinging to the roof of the car in the water. He was taken to Hospital Povisa, suffering from hypothermia.

Whilst the car was being towed out of the sea, rescuers came across the body of the woman who had been in the car. Her body, which had head injuries, was taken for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
