Thief Caught in Motril

The Policía Local in Motril have arrested an Almuñécar man in his 30s, suspected of stealing a woman's handbag.

The incident took place around 09.30h on Monday the 26th in one of the squares in the centre of Motril. The woman had been sitting on a bench and had her handbag on the ground behind her legs.

The thief approached from behind and snatched the bag from under the bench and then ran off, but the Policía Local were almost immediately out looking for him upon receiving a call from the victim, who also gave a description of the thief.

Shortly afterwards, a police patrol located a man nearby who fitted the description so they detained him who was then positively identified by the woman. He was also found to have items belonging to the woman on him, so he was taken to the police station and charged.

The next day, around 15.45h a thief snatched a mobile phone worth 1,000 euros in an bar-cafeteria on Las Explanadas whilst the customer was not looking. The police began investigating and that same afternoon they managed to track the thief down and recover the phone. The suspect is 33-years old and is from Motril.
