Sunday saw the death of an elderly bather on a beach in Torre del Mar, in the Axarquia of Málaga.
The 82-year-old man was found in the water near the shore in front of Chiringuito Varela around midday, Sunday.
The lifeguards on duty pulled the man from the water and began applying First Aid; i.e., CPR. Soon after, the Policía Local and an ambulance arrived.
Despite efforts of the lifeguards and ambulance crew to revive the elderly man, there was nothing that could be done for him, as apparently, he had suffered a heart attack whilst bathing.
Until an autopsy is carried out, it won’t be clear if he died directly from the cardiac arrest or from drowning after a heart attack. Either way, it is considered as a natural death
