Vélez-Málaga Town Hall has decided to instruct the Policía Local to crack down on 49cc scooters and scrambling bikes that have deficient silencers.
This campaign against unnecesary noise will be in effect during August and September and will involve spot checks along streets within the municipality, invovling these kinds of bikes..
The Mayor took this step owing to the sheer number of complaints that they have received about the noise generated by these vehicles.
Not only will officers fine bike riders who have deficient or ‘customised’ silencers, but they will also impound the bike
The confiscated bikes will remain in the vehicle compound until their owners have rectified the deficiency. Quite how they can do that if they can’t take it to a mechinic, is not clear.
The Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez (PP), said that, “It is important to maintain an urban environment where the welfare of others is respected.”
