The Asociación de Presidentes de Comunidades de Urbanizaciones Nerjeñas (APCUN) has complained about the state of the Green Ring Park (Anillo Verde).
This green space, some 25,000 sq/m in size, was only opened about a year ago but according to the APCUN it is in a state of semi abandonment. They say that around 30 trees have died and that the footpath has deteriorated.
The governing party (PP) has an absolute majority, so a rebellion amongst a combined opposition would not be a problem for the Mayor, so how likely is he to take this complaint seriously?
Recently, the Councillor for European Resources, Mari Carmen López (PP), had a meeting with the neighbourhood associations, where she explained that its maintenace is the task of the same company that laid the park down.
The park is situated between Calle Lucena & Calle Úbeda, and the old N-340, which is municipal property; i.e. publicly owned. The project included an 800-metre long walkway, running from north to south. The project was financed using EU funds (80%) and the remaining 20% from the municipal coffers.
The contract for the park project was awarded in 2023 with a budget of 325,566 euros and had an execution period of three months.
According to APCUN, she had told them that the said trees have been examined and an analysis made to see what has caused the trees to die but then the firm that is in charge the park will have to find a solution. She said that until it is all sorted out, the Town Hall will not sign off the company’s work.
