Child Killed on Jet Ski

A 7-year-old boy died in Hospital Costa del Sol as a result of an accident involving a jet ski on a Marbella beach.

The accident occurred around 19.30h on Thursday the 1st in the Pinillo. The victim’s family (of a foreign nationality) had spent the day on the beach and had been using a jet ski that belonged to friends of the family.

When the jet ski was approaching the beach it crossed through an area prone to lots of waves because of a sand bank below the surface. The jet ski lent over and a wave tipped the occupants into the water and pushed the machine on top of them in this shallow-water area.

On the craft at the time was the boy and an adult – it’s not clear whether the adult was the boy’s family.

The first people to reach them found the boy unconscious and unresponsive, they tried to bring him round but soon put him in a car and drove him to the said hospital, together with the father and second accompanying individual.

He was admitted to hospital in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest and at the ICU they confirmed that he had died.

This is the third fatal accident involving jet skis on the Costa del Sol in the space of  a year; the first death, a 32-year-old woman, occured on the 16th of July last year

Just a few weeks later, on the 9th of August, a 32-year-old, Frenchman, lost his life in Fuengirola. The autopsy showed that he died from a blow to the head against the handle bars after hitting a wave.
