The emergency call centre received an alert at around 15.20h to say that one of a group of divers “was not feeling very well.” The divers were about three nautical miles from the beach in a dinghy.

The coordination centre despatched a medical team to the beach where the paramedics joined the lifeguards in trying to resuscitate the victim using CPR but to no avail.

Sources say that the diver had begun to feel unwell, having breathing difficulties whilst he had been diving just to the East, off Playa de La Rijana.
