Two Irish tourists in their late 20s were arrested in Marbella for allegedly punching two municipal-police officers.
The incident occurred on the 26th of April around 04.50h on Avenida de Las Mimosas in Marbella.
The officers had been called out to a disturbance in a tourist flat; the neighbours were complaining about the noise as a party was going on.
The officers asked the Irishmen, both aged 29, to turn the music down a bit but instead of compliance, they were physically attacked.
What happened was that the officers rang the doorbell and one of the accused answered the door. The officers asked for identification. They were met with a blank refusal and told that they were having a party and had no intention of turning the music down.
Not a good start, then…
The second Irishman then came to the door and began getting bolshy towards the officers. He told the officers that they were on holiday, having a party, and then tried to close the door on the police but one of them jammed the door open with his foot.
Seeing that the officers were not going to go away, one of the two men decided to show them his passport but insisted that the music was not going to be turned down. At this point, the other man suddenly reappeared and threw a punch before slamming the door closed.
It was at this point that the officers called for reinforcements and three patrol cars (six officers) arrived. The officers ordered them to open the door and the more violent of the two door pulled it open and threw another punch, according to the police report.
The officers grabbed him but he resisted with punches and kicks before they finally got the cuffs on him. The other offender came out in support of his friend and was also immediately arrested.
