The rockslide that came down upon the GR-3200 has been causing access problems for Güéjar Sierra since Sunday night.
The result is that the road is liable to be closed to traffic for at least three days, but there are alternative routes: A-4030 passing through the Puerto de Hazallanas connecting with Sierra Nevada (that’s the road coming in from the South) or via Cortijo de la Argumosa coming from Quéntar.
Both routes puts on another 15 to 20 minutes. Fortunately, with snow-bearing Storm Nelson having moved on, these roads are clear of snowfall.
However, the normal bus service for Güéjar Sierra-Granada has been suspended in the meantime.
The Mayor of Güéjar Sierra, José Robles, went out yesterday morning to see how the clearing work was going, as well as to cover the two alternative routes to make sure that they are viable as alternative access.
Of course, the work is not only about clearing the rubble off the road, but also stabilising the hillside, which is what is going to take the most time.
