As many of you will have already heard, a beachgoer came across a body on Playa Velilla in Almuñécar Sunday evening.
Just before 21.30h the emergency call centre, 112, received a call to say that a group of anglers had come across a body amongst the rocks on the groyne next to the water park.
Although there was some speculation that it could have been the body of the elderly missing man from Almuñécar, the body did in fact belong to young, sub-Saharan male; i.e., from south of the Saharan Desert.
The emergency-response centre despatched the fire service (who have divers if needs be) and ambulance and both the Guardia Civil and Policía Local.
The body was transferred to the Instituto de Medicina Legal in Granada in order to establish, if possible, the victim’s identity. It is not certain whether the man was one of the people who were lost at sea south of Motril when their patera overturned on last friday.
As for the missing Almuñécar man, the GEAS (Guardia Civil specialists, amongst whom are divers) were present this morning in the Marina del Este, who have finally joined the search.
