A large lorry loaded with tree trunks caught fire on the A-7 autovía where it passes through the municipality of Almuñécar yesterday morning.

This incident happened around 08.30h, according to the 112 emergency, call centre. Obviously, as it happened at a time when traffic is heavy, it caused long tailbacks.

The Almuñécar fire service were despatched, Guardia Civil traffic police, as well as personnel from the forest-fire fighting entity, Infoca, in case the fire spread to the vegetation near the roadside.

The fire started when the lorry, which was carrying several large tree trunks and travelling in the Málaga direction, reached kilometre point 914, which is near the Río Verde bridge or viaduct just before the Calaceite Tunnel.
