Weekends; be they in the winter or summer, bring news of road accidents and those who need rescuing up in the mountains. This weekend was no different.

We’ve already published an article today about a biker who lost his life on the N-340 on the Costa Tropical and now we bring news of somebody who needed rescuing in the Sierra de Castril, which is in the north-east of the province.

The incident occurred shortly before 13.00h, which was when the emergency call centre received an alert concerning a hiker who had taken a fall and had injured himself.

Accordingly, the Guardia Civil, mountain-rescue team were sent in by helicopter to locate and fly the victim to hospital in Granada. The victim had severe bruising on his hips and back and complained of a headache from a blow but was able to walk unaided

The victim, in the company of other hikers, had been walking near the Pico Tornajuelos, which rises up to around 2,100 metres.
