The case of the illegal cigarette factory that was rumbled in 2017 is finally reaching the courts, with revelations about working conditions.
The workers at this clandestine cigarette factory were locked in, meaning that if there had been a fire, there was no escape. There were no fire extinguishers there, either.
Furthermore, they were paid between 500 and 700 euros a month for 10-hour working days, and it should come as no surprise that they had no Social-Security coverage.
The chances of an accident working the machines were also high as there was no safety equipment.
This was possible because these workers were all here illegally from Eastern Europe, so the factory owners were exploiting them to the maximum.
The illegal factory was located in Pilas de Algaida, which is a small municipal dependency of some 70 inhabitants, belonging to Ventas de Zafarraya in the Poniente de Granada, not far from the northern limit of Axarquía in Málaga.
Now the 13 people behind the factory (11 of whom are Spanish, plus one Russian and one Ukrainian) are facing jail for contraband, belonging to a criminal gang and violation of workers’ rights.

But nobody in the area saw anything suspicious. Really! I see no flags or is it ships?
