The internet and phone provider, Movistar, wasn't the most popular company in town after it left villages without mobile phone or Internet coverage.
This happened over in Axarquía starting Thursday, affecting residents of and visitors to Almáchar, Comares, El Borge, Cútar and Benamargosa
The Mayor of Benamargosa, Salvador Arcas, explained how his townsfolk were bereft of coverage for those five days. It was not only personal mobile or internet service because it also affected bank ATMs and tele-assistance services that both require a connection in order to function.
The Mayor said that they would probably make a claim against Movistar for damages caused; i.e., inconveniences. He went on to explain that the problem was caused by faulty wiring in a Movistar repeater mast, which is situated on private land. The company were not able to gain access to it until yesterday.
The Mayor of Almáchar, Antonio Yuste, on the other hand explained that Movistar’s fibre optic cables are used by other service providers, so it wasn’t just customers who use Movistar as a service provider for their internet and mobile phones who were affected.
