Attacked with Broken Bottle

When somebody leaves a tip in a restaurant, the waiter doesn't expect it to be the tip of a broken bottle on his or her head.

This, what can only be described as a savage attack, happened in a restaurant in Granada, resulting in the arrest of the 28-year-old, alleged aggressor by the Policía Nacional.

It appears that not content with producing a nasty wound on the waiters head, he also reportedly set about breaking things within the restaurant where he and four companions had been eating for around three hours.

It appears that the altercation was sparked by a disagreement in the amount in the bill for drinks.

This all happened around half three in the afternoon of the 26th of last month in a premises on an avenue in the northern district of the provincial capital. This was the time that the police received a call from the restaurant owner to complain of the attack.

When the police arrived, the party had already left the premises but the waiters were able to explain that a group of diners, comprising of a couple in their 30s with a minor, accompanied by another couple in their 60s, had been drinking for about three hours at their table. Upon asking for and receiving the bill, they argued, heatedly, that it was not correct and began to insult the waiters.

Suddenly, the group began to throw glass bottles at the staff, breaking some first so that they had cutting edges. One of the bottles impacted a waiter on the knee and another waiter was kick in the hip, whilst another employee received a thrown, broken bottle on the top of his head, causing a gash several centimetres long, requiring stitches at the Hospital de Traumatología.

With the information available the police were able to track down the 28-year-old at his home in the Northern District, which is a conflictive area of the city.

He later appeared before a magistrate and was released pending trial.
